Food Allergies - A Serious Problem

Food allergy is a term that doctors reserve for any irregular response by the human body’s disease fighting resistant system to safe food or part of food. In other words, Food Allergies are some irregular response to a food generated by invulnerable system of the human body. There are different types foods that cause allergy in the human body and the most common among these are Milk, Eggs peanuts, Soy, Wheat, Tree nuts like walnuts and cashews, Fish and Shellfish like shrimps and other fishes.

It is seen that in most of the cases the food allergy can cause serious illness and death. Tree nuts and peanuts are the most important causes of the poisonous allergic reactions called anaphylaxis. Most of the people puzzle food allergies with food intolerances due to the similar symptoms and signs. The signs of food un-acceptance can comprise headaches, burping, indigestion, gas, nervousness, loose motion and so on. The symptoms of food allergies are running nose, swelling, abdominal pain, wheezing, itching on skin, a tingling in the throat, lips or in the tongue.

According to a recent survey, one third of the people are of the opinion that they have food allergies. The fact is this only 2 % of adults are suffering from food allergy and only 5 to 8 % of kids have this problem. It is believed that food allergies habitually appear in early childhood, and at the same time it can begin at any age. The people who have some food allergy also have other allergies, like hay fever or allergies to some medications. It is also seen in most of the cases that the allergic leanings seem to be prevalent in the family history. Though with food allergies, it is regular for an only family member to be food sensitive.

One of the best treatments to food allergies is to avoid completely eating the problematic food stuffs for ever. There are different types of medicine that are available for treating food allergies. These medicines are taken after a patient unknowingly ingests foodstuff to which that patient is allergic.
